PlayStation VR2 Arrives in February and Costs More Than a PS5

After months of waiting, Sony just announced it will launch its next-gen VR2 virtual reality headset on February 22nd, and it’ll cost more than a PlayStation 5. The new and improved PS VR2 will run gamers $549.

Exactly one year after the company officially unveiled the headset, its new PlayStation VR 2, Sense controllers, and stereo headset will hit the shelves. Sony also confirmed the headset would cost €599.99 in Europe, £529.99 in the UK, ¥74,980 in Japan, and the company will also offer an optional Sense controller charging station for $50.

Honestly, the price is far higher than we expected, especially considering it costs more than the Playstation 5 itself, which is what gamers need to use the PS VR2 in the first place. That said, given the $1,500 asking price of the new Meta Quest Pro, it’s not surprising.

However, The PS VR2 is a major upgrade over the original and promises a vastly better experience. The new VR2 packs an improved OLED display with a 110-degree field of view, 4K HDR support, and super smooth 120Hz frame rates to ensure the best gaming experience.

Another significant aspect of the VR2 is the four built-in cameras that can read your surroundings. That way, gamers don’t need external cameras to track body movements. It also supports eye-tracking, not to mention a single cord setup and configuration so buyers can get set up and game faster than on the original PSVR.

During the announcement, Sony also revealed 11 promising new PS VR 2 titles that are on the way. While we’re already expecting No Man’s Sky, Resident Evil 8, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and more, Sony also confirmed Switchback VR, Crossfire, World Aftermath Collection, and Pistol Whip VR, to name a few.

The all-new PlayStation VR 2 will be available for pre-order starting November 15th for $550 and, again, will be released on February 22nd. Buyers can also choose from bundles like the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle for $50 more.
