NVIDIA and AMD Graphics Card Prices Are Finally Going Down

If you’ve experienced the misery that is shopping for an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card recently, you’re about to feel a little better, as street prices for GPUs are dropping slightly. They’re not selling for MSRP, but we’re one step closer.

Tom’s Hardware first spotted the price decrease. The website has been charting graphics card prices through retailers and eBay, and it found that prices have dropped from every NVIDIA and AMD GPU in recent days.

According to the data, an NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB sold for around $1,773 two months ago. Now, the very same card is selling for $1,600, which is a drop of approximately 11%. That’s still a gigantic increase over the original launch price of the Founder’s Edition, which NVIDIA sold for $699.

Even better, that’s just one card. All of the popular GPUs have seen drops between 5 and 10% recently, indicating that this might actually be a pricing trend. It’ll probably be a long time before we’re able to pay anything close to MSRP for an AMD or NVIDIA GPU, but this at least seems like a move in the right direction.

As for why the cards dropped in price, it could be the significant cryptocurrency crash. The decreased volume of sales could also be a sign that people are giving up on trying to buy cards through scalpers and resigning themselves to waiting things out. We’ll have to wait and see how this all shakes out, but it’s an encouraging sign.
