Hey, It Looks Like You Need a Microsoft Ugly Sweater

Microsoft's clippy holiday sweater

The holidays are a time for tradition, and one of the more recent and fun ones involves slapping on a hideous seasonal sweater. This year, Microsoft’s famously annoying paperclip has popped up again to help you out.

Microsoft’s now retired mascot, who was annoying at the time but is coated in a thick layer of nostalgia these days, features on the front of the garment. The speech bubble protruding from where his mouth would be if he wasn’t a paperclip says “happy holidays” and contains Microsoft’s classic OK button.

Clippy was a feature bundled in with Microsoft Office between 1997 and 2003. He would pop up and suggest corrections to a user’s work. The paperclip was a source of irritation for some, but also became the subject of what would now be considered memes.

If you buy a sweater, the money won’t be going into Bill Gates’ back pocket. Instead, all profits are going to a good cause. This year, Microsoft has picked the College Success Foundation which helps underserved and low-income students enter college and helps them succeed once they get there.

You can purchase a Clippy holiday sweater from the Xbox Store for $74.99. It only comes in blue, but is available in sizes from small to 3XL. If that’s a bit beyond your holiday sweater budget, but the charity aspect still appeals to you, the website also has a donation option.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has offered its customers some hideous additions to their winter wardrobe. Previous holiday sweaters sold by the company include designs from the ever popular MS Paint, along with graphics from outdated but popular operating systems like Windows XP, and Windows 95.
